The Idler, a magazine dedicated to chillaxin’ (like that kids?), has published its ‘Carnal Knowledge’ issue with a cover by Damien Hirst.
To my educated eye I see a metaphor which shows America (the cucumber) trapped in Iraq (breasts) while trying to ease its passage with the blood, sweat and tears of soldiers and the Iraqi citizenry (the vaseline). Yeah… I’m pretty sure that’s it.
I’m still waiting for my copy but I can be pretty sure there’s sex inside.
mm… interesting take, Sam. I see it more as a depiction of America’s lust for oil. The woman represents America, forcing oil drilling rigs (represented by the cuke…hmmm… using cuke-lear weapons to get more oil… but I digress) into herself, deep into the “bosom” of America (both literally and figuratively) to extract the “milk” of industrialism, represented here by the Vaseline (note that Vaseline is petroleum jelly… why not just hit us on the head with a hammer?) Note the hands, America’s supporters perhaps, that are helping America to drain her precious milk from the outside. Who are these supporters? Who knows. The artist doesn’t give us enough information about them so we can only speculate.
Winter - I think you’re missing how obvious the lace bra is holding the breasts together around the American cucumber (comically colored green in a jab at the flag of Hamas). It’s clearly the Iraqi insurgency, underwired with hardcore Islam - covered ineffectively with black(water) lace. Do I have to spell everything out? This is 101 stuff…
Explain the cum* on her tit and hand, Sam… explain the cum*!!!
Regardless, that’s a fascinating picture for some reason that I can’t wrap my fevered mind around.
*allegedly
Chris - Cum = moneyshot = money invested. Really Chris, it goes without saying right?
…
…
Okay, Sam - I’ll let you have that one… this time.
