While at one end pop music videos get increasingly boring and obvious, on the other due to a desire to be less explicit and faced with music made by elderly producers who can’t be seen, the sexual content is getting ever more dreamlike and Freudian.
Beyonce, who’s managed by her parents and therefore doesn’t really ‘do’ sex, has made a video for ‘Greenlight’ which manages to be pornographic without trying. She starts off playing with a giant black pussy while dressed as a cat and playing with a massive ball of wool. She’s then shown dressed in a range of vinyl outfits topped with patent-leather, ballet-pointe heels, and is required to crawl between the open legs of a number of similarly dressed women. She claims it’s inspired by Robert Palmer’s ‘Addicted to Love’ but all they have in common is women playing instruments and my erection. There might be a double meaning here. I think it’s Beyonce’s heavy into the rubber scene.
‘Somebody to Love’ by the ‘Boogie Pimps’ samples Jefferson Airplane and has a video which can only be the result of ingesting the kind of drug load Grace Slick used to call breakfast. They take a model, place her in lingerie on a miniature model of the countryside, tapping straight into giantism fetishes, and then CGI a load of skydiving babies into the air who are all keen to land on her breasts to drink her milk.
I swear I’m not making this up.
The babies take the entire video to make it the massive babe, and the video ends with what I can only describe as milk bukkake. If you’ve ever wondered what babies parachuting into a giants crotch must look like you’ll love this.
The final weirdness comes from Studio B’s “I See Girls”. Inspired by Axe advertising, the piece follows a man who is for some reason trying to escape from a gang of cheerleaders in cycling helmets. That’s it. An extended dream/nightmare sequence which most guys would end by standing still and seeing what happened. It’s like an aircore remake of those early 90’s movies in which Rutger Hauer took a bunch of white guys into the country to hunt and kill a black hobo for sport. Just in this version Ice T doesn’t turn the tables and kill everyone.

Wow that baby/giantess video is freaky. There are so many Freudian things happening in it-giantess, infantilsm, incest, giant vagina eating a man, crushing fantasies. Or is it a weird commentary on how the stork makes the sexy woman a mother by dive bombing babies upon her? Or maybe it’s simply the combination of too many drugs and a video budget.
My thought on the I See Girls video-maybe the guy is gay and this is his worst nightmare?
While the Beyonce video has that manufactured “this is what’s sexy,” I dig the Boogie Pimps one because it’s more “We got nothin’ but a name and a sample. Here’s a giant hottie in her underwear and some crazy baby shit.”

the last one… well… I think the directors needed something to justify their need to see loads of breasts jiggling about and get it on film. After seeing this I wouldn’t mind seeing a similar version of OK go’s treadmill video.
