Hugh Hefner and friend.

Gets up late, goes to bed early, doesn’t sleep around anymore, is weird in restaurants, has old friends, doesn’t read Playboy, still likes naked ladies.

I was looking at a post from LukeIsBack that got me thinking. The guy raises a point.

What is going to happen to Playboy when Hef dies. Who is going to be the icon/showman to fill those shoes? What happens to the parties and events he promotes?

His eldest son perhaps? How old is he? I would hate to see it just fade away.

I remember when I was in grade school, talking about Playboy magazine (it was in line going into the cafeteria). It was something I only heard about, but never saw. How zealots were trying to shut Hefner down. I got bummed that I would NEVER see an issue - by the time I would be old enough to buy it. Indeed.

JohnIan - It’s pretty well known that Hef’s daughter, Christie, who’s in charge of most Playboy operations isn’t fond of porn. I’d predict the company will be split on Hef’s move to the party in the sky. The magazine will die - it’s not a profit centre - and the brand will be subsumed into a larger company, or take on a more solidly softcore feel.

I meant as in icon replacement. It would be a sad day that the world comes closing in. There need to be a program of some sort to save that universe. An endangered species.

Ever read “Towing Jehovah” by James Morrow? In it God dies (the only way for humanity to move on and stop using him as a crutch) - the world continues. The analogy is that of a clock maker. Its creator passes on and the time piece continues to work. I’m sleepy, I’m not making much senes. You I think you get the general idea.

JohnIan - Two pulls and a pass, them’s the rules. I haven’t read the book but might on your recommendation. Hef’s managed his reputation quite expertly. I expect there’ll be a series of revelations on his death and some rapid reassessment. It’ll be interesting to see what sticks.
