Iranian Pornographers Subject to Death Penalty Under New Law

A leaked sex-tape in the middle east can be life-threatening.

Tehran, 30 April (AKI) - The culture committee of the Iranian parliament approved on Monday a bill sentencing to death producers of ‘pornography’, videos and films deemed vulgar by the country’s censorship. The draft law will now go to parliament where it is expected to be approved by an ample majority. Amateur porn films have a prosperous market in Iran and can fetch up to 30 euros each.

The market, tolerated for a long time, became a nationwide issue earlier this year after a porn film of popular television actress, Zohre Mir Ebrahimi, having sex with her partner, was released.

Is this story not being widely reported because killing people for the crime of holding a camera isn’t news? Or because freedom of expression doesn’t apply when sex is involved?

In the current so called ‘war’ between East and West, the people calling for battle have more in common than they think.

West vs East: isn’t it more like “Christian nation” vs “Muslim nations”? Since they share the same foundation (old testament), I am not suprissed about how much they look alike. The comparison between the Taliban and the current administration has been made often.

Inhibitor - I don’t think it’s a religious divide. There are nuts who subscribe to both modes of thought. I’d say it’s fundamentalism (whatever the stripe) vs. reason.

Though I’m no fan of the Bush regime they’re not the Taliban. I hate it when people I generally agree with (and I don’t mean you Inhibitor) use the same exaggeration I hate to see used against me. The Taliban will kill you for having the wrong kind of facial hair. Anyone who thinks the Republicans are equivalent hasn’t done their homework.

Of course, there’s a great deal wrong, we just remain more free. For now.

Interesting. I suppose it’s a good thing my travel agent thinks it’s too hard to get Iranian visas right now. (No joke- I want to go to the middle east this fall and have been trying to narrow down the right country/countries.)

A death penalty is extreme, as extreme as Shariah Law in Saudi Arabia for theft (amputation), or adultery (public caning or stoning), although I do agree with the murder penalty (execution, with no jokeworthy circuit trials). They’re probably trying to deal with porn, and see it as a threat to their culture, although porn exists in many countries (the cultural elements differ within the films). Maybe they’d be more content if they produced the films? some of that San Fernando Valley sex can be a little over the top lol

Furry - You should probably introduce yourself as some other Furry girl and hope you don’t run into a fan.

Anastasia - I can’t agree with you on the death penalty. America’s the only advanced nation with one and I’ve never heard a good explanation for what you do when the courts get it wrong, or why it seems to have no effect on the crime rate.

Sharia law is totally suspect. It’s not a set of laws, but a system for deciding laws based on religious texts. That means the law says more about the people doing the interpreting than the religion. Religion seems to be the common theme here. I suggest we just get rid of it.

    > I suggest we just get rid of it.

I’ve been saying that for ages, but no one listens to me.
