The first step towards better conditions for strippers, pornsters and prostitutes is organization.
“The workers must control the means of erection.”
‘Dancers for Democracy‘ are an Ohio group trying to prevent proposed legislation which mandates strippers don’t get within six feet of customers when dancing. The dancers think it’ll decrease their earnings, exactly the cooling effect desired, but the legislature should know it won’t. You can’t apply this law to conversation and if the dances are distant there are a thousand ways to get closer before, or after, the ‘dance’ has officially finished.
The idea a separation law’s required is hilarious. If they think dancers enjoy rubbing up against strangers for a dollar they’ve never seen me offering strangers quarters to sit on my lap during rush-hour, besides lobbyists this good looking deserve to win.
Sam, they tried to implement a similar four foot rule on the dancers here in Seattle, Washington, along with some other ridiculous rules for clubs. Luckily, the rules were overturned by the voters before they were ever put into place. The voter response certainly gave me a bit of pride in my city, despite the indication that our government and city council are completely out of touch with our needs.
I’m curious, however, if other areas have already enacted rules like this, and what effect they had on the clubs in the area. I’ve heard rumors that Seattle’s neighboring city, Bellevue, has these rules in place and that is why there are no clubs in that city. Admittedly, I’ve been too lazy to look that up.
Maybe there are some dancers or club owners that read your blog that have some insight to share.
Miss Knees - I know there’s a similar rule in some London clubs but am not sure if it’s law. There are also cities within Los Angeles with pretty tortured restrictions. In LA the rules get broken, clubs get shut, and then it all goes back to normal. Raids are fairly common (check the boards at http://www.zbone.com)
