Greg Williams is one of the world’s greatest photographers whose work you’ve undoubtedly seen without knowing it’s the handiwork of a young Englishman who got his start shooting warfighters in Burma, Chechnya and Sierra Leone. It’s likely you’ve seen his work on the last James Bond poster, or covering the cast of ‘The Departed’ for Vanity Fair but you don’t often see someone with as much skill as Greg turn his hand to erotica.
The best porn shooters are mid-range commercial photographers at best, there are none who can lay claim to sharing an agent with Annie Liebowitz and Ellen von Unworth. The difference in quality between no-expense spared erotic photography and the Abercrombie and Fitch wannabe softcore more commonly seen is immediately tangible when you view the good stuff. This image on William’s site stopped me in my tracks and made me wonder if there’s a market for erotic images of this quality.
Would anyone else pay to see photographs taken by the best, of the best models, with nothing else in mind than creating sublime carnality? Can the economics of porn be made to work when a day’s shooting costs over $50,000 or does no one care about the difference between killer and (good but not great) filler? Does everything masturbatory have to be shamed into being second tier?
OMFG, the Lonely Doll fan-art!!! (Sorry, this is the most intelligent reaction you’re going to get out of me.)
Adele - Geek points 20.
Wow, that is one cool photo. Don’t mess with the teddies, they have a mean streak.
Damnit - the photo’s not loading for me. Bah.
On a side note, your headline had me thinking this had something to do with large, hairy gay men spanking each other… then I remembered who you were, relaxed, and clicked on the link.
Vixen - genius huh? A desktop background to be proud of.
Chris - I hope I haven’t broken the site. If so I’ll hear about it I’m sure. Thanks for vote of confidence. I’m as metrosexual as the next repressed homo but bears aren’t my style.
well, of course there’s a demand - isn’t this basically the premise Maxim et al are founded on? (more watered down than your vision perhaps, but…)
Rich - But word on the street is Maxim US is about to be sold and FHM’s already gone. Also Maxim uses much, much cheaper photographers and the ‘models’ are normally celebs who come for free.
