I don’t use this blog to talk about my personal life, which is probably why most of you read it, but in porn that makes me the exception rather than the rule. Even if you ignore my winning personality and diamond abs.
If you read other porn blogs you might have noticed a recent wave of religious recrimination. Predictably Luke Ford remains the jizz-bizz’s own confused fundamentalist faux-Jew, but Donny Pauling has recently decided that Jesus is better than vagina and Crissy Moran is very publicly working out the issues raised by a Dickensian childhood.
I feel for performers like Crissy. When I last saw her in a professional environment (back when she was in softcore) she had the glazed tunnel vision of someone who is as unsure of what they’re doing as they are determined to do it. Worse for her, she’s sold her image and her name which now means her old site, CrissyMoran.com, is running independently and against her wishes.
Pornographers like Donny don’t deserve any sympathy. Only people blind to other people’s feelings (that’d be sociopaths) knowingly collaborate in other people’s self-destructive decisions. Being ready to shoot confused, angry people who aren’t aware of the consequences of their actions is like giving tattoos to drunk people. Porn doesn’t have to be a messy business and if you’re open to running a ’sticky floor’ operation the consequences are well-documented and obvious. Pornographers who only discover the people around them are hurt and confused when they find religion can’t have been paying much attention before.
Porn doesn’t hurt people, assholes hurt people. Crissy and Donny are forgetting that.

Hey sam, I’ve been reading you since you started this blog, and been reading Donny for quite a while. Hard athiest here, so his change took me by surprise. As well as some of the things he’s said regarding past models, and it kinda made me sad how these girls’ lives have been disrupted.
But you just fixed it for me… People shouldn’t take on this style of work lightly. And if the past comes back to haunt them, then I’m sorry, but they should have made decisions that fit their situation better. It’d be like coddling someone who lost all their savings on the roulette wheel. Sad, but you should have thought through the consequences.
Oh, and vagina is way better than God.
Jack - Glad to be of service. Donny’s a bit rich to pretend his eyes have suddenly been thrown open to the damage around him at a time when it’s convenient to play hero. It’s far harder to point out the badness when your livelihood’s involved. Being an insider is honorable. Quitting and pointing is just hypocritical.
I met Donovan Phillips at Summer Internext in August and really was put off by his hardcore model recruiting tactics that he used on me, even after I told him that I was a webmaster. I think he is a master manipulator who has gotten girls to go much further than what they initially planned when they entered his studio.
Tara - The ‘I fooled her…’ attitude is sadly common among photographers. If you’re cute (and I’m sure you are) getting anything but a leer can be problematic. I used to have a glamorous assistant and all she got from meetings at shows were offers of work in front of the camera.
I sometimes wonder if certain people are more recruited by religious groups than others. The woman from Roe vs. Wade is now a born again fundie. What a “capture” and poster child for that camp.
Would it not be the same for porn stars? They convert them and convince them their former life was full of evil. And they get a perfect poster child for they’re anti-porn cause.
It’s similar to the groups that claim to “cure” homosexuality. Get a gay man who was a slut to see the light and voila-instant poster boy for the evils of gaydom.
