73% of just under a thousand adults asked the question “Do you consider it to be morally acceptable to view pornographic Web sites and videos?” answered ‘No’ and only a cynic would suggest that ‘Morality in Media’ might have an agenda.
Their President Robert W. Peters (never trust a ‘W’) said “Most pornography is consumed by a relatively small percentage of males who are hooked on it.” I’m sure he knows what he’s talking about.
In case anyone from Morality in Media can read is reading this, here are some other questions you might want to poll on to get usefully skewed answers with which to stir the mob.
- “Do you think porn’s depiction of women is morally acceptable and how do you know if you’ve not seen it?”
- “Do you think it’s morally acceptable to bomb an Iraqi family who are not watching porn”
- “What’s your favorite piece of porn and what outraged you most about it?”
- “If memory’s like video tape, should we close our eyes during sex to avoid making memory-porn?”
- “Is thinking about having sex as a teenager ‘child memory-porn’ and should you report yourself for thinking it?”
- “Jesus said ‘Love the sinner, hate the sin’ – if porn is sinful, which pornstars does Jesus’s love most and why?”
- “Would you like to watch some porn as part of our survey?”
I for one am looking forward to hearing what the public have to say.

I assume this is from the Harris poll that recently came out. I blogged a while back about another Harris poll and pointed out the numbers, the raw facts. It was funny to me, because the reporter grabbed three or four percentages, and made statements like “25% of women blah blah blah”. Well I took the raw numbers and rewrote the article where it showed that 75% certainly don’t feel blah blah blah. I have not yet seen this poll data, it was not linked here or in the xbiz article, but I would like to disect the numbers in this one a bit.
When i was researching the raw data that made the last article I posted about I also came across another discovery; Harris interactive admits that getting people in telephone polls to be honest about sex is far from accurate. They admit that they believe most people will not be honest with a stranger on the phone about thier sexual interests, and they couldn’t even guess how many plus or minus points to put in the results with that in mind.
If yahoo’s 360 had a search feature I could find that old post to be a little more specific, but going page by page through 200 posts will take some time that I don’t have at the moment.
Does anyone have the link to the raw data from this poll?
Spam?
Steve – You probably have to buy the data. As for the story, I picked it up here: http://www.washingtontimes.com/culture/20060724-110417-2861r.htm
“Most pornography is consumed by a relatively small percentage of males who are hooked on it.”
Hmm,…I think given that description I really need to consult my gyn doc. I may well be the first man alive to have given birth four times!
