TRE‘, a movie written by and starring my friend Kim is currently doing the rounds of the festival circuit. Directed by Eric Byler, who she met on the set of ‘Charlotte Sometimes‘ (a very well received Los Angeles based love story from a couple of years back), TRE is loosely based on Kim’s life – but I’m assuming ‘The Life of Kimberly-Rose Walter’ sounds too much like a movie-of-the-week to garner any indie cred.

I haven’t seen TRE yet (I’ve not been to LA in months), but I know I will and I know it’ll be great because…

  • The first time I met Kim we bonded while listening to a barely-legal drunk girl read Shakespeare and tell us how ‘fucking deep’ it was. Kim spoke to her as if she was a visiting professor from Cambridge and the more seriously she took her, the harder the drunk girl worked on connecting ‘Romeo and Juliet’ to the TV shows, boyfriends and incidents at clubs they reminded her of. It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever witnessed.
  • When Kim decided she wanted to get more acting work she founded a theatre company and her first production immediately became a hot ticket (there’s more theatre in LA than in NY – the scene’s huge). The night I was there the playright (accompanied by Tom ‘Amadeus’ Hulce) had come in from New York to see what the fuss was about and that play’s run was extended repeatedly until finally the theatre’s scheduling conflicts forced it to close.
  • Kim writes so well it makes your eyes water.
